In a big win for Chhattisgarh’s fight against Maoists, twelve active insurgents surrendered to Superintendent of Police Robinson Guria in Narayanpur district on Wednesday. This surrender is a major boost to the ongoing campaign to wipe out Naxalism in the region.
Among the group were two key area committee members, who played big roles in the Maoist network. The total reward on their heads? Over Rs 18 lakh! “Out of the twelve, five are women and seven are men,” Guria shared, highlighting the mix in this breakthrough.
Experts see this as a clear sign that the government’s strong rehabilitation policy is working wonders. It offers Maoists a real chance to leave violence behind and rejoin society. The surrendered members came from different Naxal wings, like LOS-CNM, PPCM, Military Platoon, and Jantana Sarkar. Their choice shows growing frustration in the ranks and trust in the state’s efforts to bring peace.
SP Guria, who welcomed them, said this move hits hard at Maoist operations in the area. It also sends a powerful signal to others still involved in the armed struggle. With the rewards now off the table, it’s a step forward for everyone.
This comes as part of India’s nationwide drive to end Naxalism for good. Union Home Minister Amit Shah has targeted March 2026 as the deadline to eradicate the movement completely.
The progress is impressive: In 2024, 928 Maoists surrendered across the country. And in just the first four months of 2025, another 718 have followed suit. Plus, security forces have taken down over 241 Maoists in operations this year alone.
The Narayanpur event is cheering up the security teams and proving the government’s smart approach—tough action paired with real support for those who surrender. As the 2026 goal nears, these surrenders could speed things up, paving the way for lasting peace in Naxal-hit areas. One step at a time, a Naxal-free India feels closer than ever.
