Heavy rain hit Delhi on Tuesday, and the city’s main airport made quick changes to keep travelers safe. At least 15 flights were redirected because of the downpour.
The Delhi Airport Authority rerouted the planes early in the day: eight went to Jaipur, five to Lucknow, and two switched to Chandigarh. The move was a precaution, the bank said, to avoid any weather‑related incidents. On‑ground crews worked to keep the airport running smoothly and told passengers to consider the Delhi Metro or other transport options to reach the terminals.
If you were on one of the diverted flights, the airport asked travelers to get the latest updates from their airline.
The storm spread across the National Capital Region, touching spots like Feroze Shah Road, central Delhi, Arjun Path near Vasant Vihar Flyover, and RK Puram. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an orange alert for Delhi, warning of light to moderate rain, thunderstorms, and winds that could hit up to 40 km/h.
Looking ahead, the IMD forecasts a partly cloudy sky for Wednesday. Temperatures should stay within normal ranges—31‑33 °C (88‑91 °F) in the daytime and 20‑22 °C (68‑72 °F) at night. Winds will shift from the northeast in the morning to the northwest in the afternoon and evening, picking up to 15 km/h. Thursday is expected to be clearer, with similar temperatures and lighter winds.
Travelers should keep an eye on the weather, stay in touch with their airlines, and plan alternate routes if needed.
