Delhi Transport Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh announced a big update on Thursday: With help from IIT Delhi, the government has picked 18 public transport bus routes in the Trans-Yamuna region for smart changes. This move aims to make commuting easier, cut down traffic jams, and boost last-mile connectivity to metro stations and major industrial spots.
“This route rationalisation is a key step to make Trans-Yamuna more commuter-friendly and ease congestion,” Singh said. “We’re all about giving Delhi residents reliable, affordable, and eco-friendly last-mile options.”
The plan will roll out in phases for a smooth start and real benefits for everyone. It stretches bus services to new areas, covers over a thousand stops, and reaches spots that never had good public transport before. Now, underserved neighborhoods get better links to Delhi Metro, and direct routes connect to hubs like New Mandoli, Patparganj, and Tahirpur.
To push green mobility, the Rekha Gupta government added 3,800 electric buses in just six months. These help nearly 40 lakh daily commuters in Delhi and strengthen the entire bus network.
Thanks to reforms like this route rationalisation, the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) is turning things around—from a loss-maker to a more efficient service that saves money and serves better.
Singh added that the next six months will bring a stronger public transport system across the city. Plus, they’re fixing the Outer Ring Road to slash congestion and smooth out traffic flow for all.
