Big Crackdown on Drug Smugglers in Punjab: Police Seize Over 33 Kg Heroin, Arrest Key Players

In a major boost to Punjab’s fight against drugs, Amritsar police have nabbed a notorious smuggler and seized 7 kg and 122 grams of heroin. The arrested man, Yasin Mohammad, already faces four prior cases under the NDPS Act, Arms Act, and snatching charges. This bust comes as part of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s aggressive anti-drug campaign, showing real progress in curbing the menace.

Amritsar Commissioner of Police Gurpreet Singh Bhullar shared the details with . "Our team recovered this huge heroin haul and arrested Yasin, who’s deep into smuggling. This success highlights our commitment to the anti-drug drive," Bhullar said. Investigations point to Yasin’s partner-in-crime, Jagpreet, who shared jail time with him in Ludhiana back in 2023-24. The duo runs a drug cartel that picks up consignments from the Ajnala area near the border.

From Yasin’s questioning, police learned this was their third or fourth big shipment. They set up handover points close to the Tarn Taran border, with Jagpreet handling distribution in the Malwa region of Punjab. Now, cops are on high alert to catch Jagpreet, a hardened criminal with his own rap sheet of four NDPS and Arms Act cases in Ferozepur and Ludhiana. "We’re closing in on him to dismantle their entire network," Bhullar added. The team is also digging into financial trails and other clues to smash the whole operation.

Joint BSF-Punjab Police Raid Nets Another 25 Kg Heroin Haul

The action didn’t stop there. In a joint operation on Wednesday, the Border Security Force (BSF) and Punjab Police’s Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) caught a drug smuggler near Beharwal village in Amritsar. Acting on solid intel, they stopped a suspicious motorcycle and grabbed the rider.

The search turned up a massive bag with 23 packets of suspected heroin—weighing 25.9 kg in total—plus a pistol with two magazines, a mobile phone, and the bike itself. Officials suspect the drugs came across the border via drone drop. The smuggler hails from Beharwal village, and police have handed him over to ANTF Amritsar for deeper probe and court action. This heroin seizure underscores the ongoing drone smuggling threat along Punjab’s international border.

BSF’s Triple Strike: More Arrests, Drugs, and Drone Busts

BSF didn’t let up, pulling off three more operations along the Punjab border to hit drug traffickers hard. First, on Sunday night in Ferozepur, troops ambushed a suspect between Palla Megha and Kilche villages. They arrested one person—a local from Kamlewala village—and recovered a pistol with three live rounds, 45 grams of narcotics, ₹19,480 in cash, a mobile phone, and a bike. This mix of drugs, weapons, and drug money shows how smugglers operate.

Shifting to the Amritsar border, BSF tracked a drone and nabbed three suspects near Mode village. Questioning continues to uncover their plans and connections in the smuggling ring.

Finally, early Monday, patrols in Amritsar found a DJI Mavic 3 Classic drone in a field near Nesta village, along with a 576-gram packet of heroin. These back-to-back BSF operations highlight their vigilance against cross-border smuggling tactics like drones.

Punjab’s war on drugs is heating up, with these arrests and seizures dealing a blow to heroin networks. As police and BSF keep the pressure on, residents hope for safer streets ahead. Stay tuned for updates on the hunt for Jagpreet and the full network takedown.
