The Election Commission of India has reported that more than 50.11 crore (or 98.32 per cent) of elector‑specific Enumeration Forms have been handed out across 12 states and union territories. The move is part of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) Phase II, a key step in keeping India’s electoral rolls fresh and accurate.
What the ECI said
- All 12 states and union territories have printed 100 per cent of their Enumeration Forms.
- 50,11,75,907 forms have already been distributed, and the commission has finished digitising 4,42,64,069 of them.
- Goa and Lakshadweep have reached a perfect 100 per cent of distribution.
- As of 27 October, 50,97,44,423 people were registered voters in the 12 areas.
How the revision works
SIR Phase II runs from 4 November to 4 December and focuses on door‑to‑door checks. Booth Level Officers (BLOs) and Booth Level Agents (BLAs) – appointed by recognised political parties – verify voter details one household at a time.
States that are part of SIR Phase II
Goa, Lakshadweep, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan, Puducherry, Kerala, and Chhattisgarh.
Highlights by state
| State / UT | Forms Distributed | Distribution % |
|---|---|---|
| Uttar Pradesh | 15.27 crore | 98.90 % |
| Madhya Pradesh | 5.71 crore | 99.63 % |
| West Bengal | 7.63 crore | 99.56 % |
| Kerala | – | 95.68 % |
| Tamil Nadu | – | 94.31 % |
| Puducherry | – | 94.35 % |
Moving forward
The commission urges all recognised parties to boost the number of BLAs, especially in crowded constituencies, to keep the verification process transparent. With 5.33 lakh BLOs and 10.41 lakh BLAs on the ground, the EC aims to finish the enumeration in any lagging areas before the next election cycle kicks off.
In just under three weeks of the current phase, the Election Commission of India will keep pushing until all voter rolls are completely updated and accurate.
