In the busy Kacheguda district of Hyderabad, an abandoned car was found blocking the road beneath a railway bridge on Thursday night. When locals spotted the vehicle, they called the police, and traffic was stopped right away.
Police and the bomb‑disposal team rushed to the spot, along with a trained dog squad. After a quick sweep, Deputy Commissioner B. Balaswamy said the car contained no explosives or suspicious items. The vehicle is registered to a local Kacheguda resident named Balaji. Early police work shows a man called Sameer may have taken the car, leaving it in disarray. Authorities are now looking for him and plan to file a case.
The scare comes after the November 10 explosion of a car near New Delhi’s Red Fort, which killed 13 people. That incident has put a spotlight on vehicle searches across India. In 2024, two other cars linked to suspected terror threats were seized in Haryana and at Al‑Falah University, prompting bomb‑squad inspections.
Since the Delhi blast, Hyderabad police, together with the Cyberabad and Rachakonda commissionerates, have stepped up vehicle checks at railway and bus stations, and increased security at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport. Railway Protection Force officers at Secunderabad Station are also conducting thorough luggage and passenger checks, while bomb‑disposal teams patrol the area.
