In a big win for student politics, the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) dominated the 2025 Uttarakhand student union elections. The BJP-backed group secured 332 posts across colleges, including 58 union president spots, according to a student leader on Sunday.
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami celebrated the ABVP’s historic sweep, calling it a strong message from youth against anti-national and anti-Sanatan forces. “This victory shows students rejecting agendas that mislead them and disrespect our traditions,” Dhami said. He noted the win energizes everyone, especially as his government ramps up youth initiatives like the anti-cheating law and more government jobs.
Dhami pointed out over 25,000 new job opportunities announced recently, sparking hope among young people in Uttarakhand. The ABVP triumphed in key spots like DAV PG College in Dehradun, HNB Garhwal University, and campuses in Rishikesh, Kotdwar, Khatima, and Srinagar. This spread highlights the group’s strong network from city centers to remote hilly areas.
A student leader explained the ABVP’s success came from its five-point plan: fair exams, education reforms, protecting student rights, maintaining campus order, and promoting nationalist values. Students turned out in force on Saturday to support it. The wins break down to 58 presidents, 52 vice presidents, 47 general secretaries, 51 treasurers, 50 joint secretaries, 62 university reps, 6 cultural secretaries, and 6 women vice presidents.
Uttarakhand’s student elections often launch future leaders, and this ABVP victory gives a major lift to the BJP’s nationalist push, said a party leader. It could even shape how youth vote in upcoming state assembly polls. The leader added that the results show young voters in Uttarakhand want politics focused on values, transparency, and real issues. Plus, it backs Dhami’s approach to empowering the next generation.
