Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit Arunachal Pradesh and Tripura on September 22, wrapping up a busy Northeast tour that already took him to Manipur, Mizoram, and Assam. Officials shared these exciting updates from Itanagar and Agartala, highlighting big infrastructure boosts and cultural milestones.
In Arunachal Pradesh, Modi will kick off a packed day in Itanagar with major project launches worth thousands of crores. He’ll lay the foundation stone for the ambitious 1,830-km Frontier Highway, running parallel to the McMahon Line from Bomdila in West Kameng district to Vijaynagar in Changlang district. This highway promises to strengthen national security and improve connectivity in border areas, making travel and trade smoother for locals.
He’ll also start work on two key hydroelectric projects virtually: the 186-MW Tato-I project and the 240-MW Heo project over the Yarjep River in Shi Yomi district. These initiatives will harness the region’s rivers to generate clean power and support economic growth.
From Indira Gandhi Park in Itanagar, Modi will launch the second phase of the Vibrant Villages Programme (VVP), addressing a large public gathering. This phase targets 122 border villages with all-weather roads, 4G telecom networks, and on-grid electricity. Out of these, 67 sit along the India-Myanmar border, and 55 along the India-Bhutan border. The Home Ministry has allocated Rs 2,205 crore for this push, part of a larger Rs 6,839 crore VVP rollout across states like Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, and others until 2028-29.
The VVP aims to uplift these remote spots by improving living standards, creating jobs, curbing cross-border crime, and turning locals into vital partners for border security—essentially making them the “eyes and ears” for guarding forces. Plus, Modi will virtually inaugurate an integrated convention centre in Tawang to boost tourism and events.
Preparations are in full swing in Itanagar, with road beautification, stage setups, and heightened security ensuring everything runs smoothly.
Later that afternoon, Modi heads to Tripura. In Agartala, Chief Minister Manik Saha announced that the PM will inaugurate the stunningly redeveloped Tripura Sundari Temple in Udaipur, Gomati district—about 65 km south of the capital. This ancient site, over 500 years old and one of Hinduism’s 51 Shakti Peethas, got a Rs 52 crore makeover under the central government’s PRASHAD scheme, with the state chipping in Rs 7 crore. The upgrades include beautified surroundings to attract more pilgrims and tourists.
After the unveiling, Modi will offer prayers at the Kali Temple there before heading back to Agartala and flying to Delhi. No public speech is on the cards this time, but Saha had personally invited him to grace the event. This visit underscores the government’s focus on preserving cultural heritage while driving development in the Northeast.
