After Red Fort blast, Centre flags rising propaganda threat; cautions media against amplifying terror narratives

In New Delhi, the government asked all private satellite TV stations to be careful when airing news about the recent Red Fort attack.
The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting warned that some channels have shown footage that seems to praise the attackers or even give instructions on how to make explosives. According to the ministry, such programs can spark violence, stir up public disorder, and threaten national security.
Broadcasts should follow the Programme and Advertising Code under the Cable Television Network (Regulation) Act, 1995. Violations of Rules 6(1)(d), 6(1)(e) and 6(1)(h) could lead to penalties.
The Red Fort blast, carried out by the Jaish‑e‑Mohammad (JeM) unit in Faridabad, has put Indian security services on high alert. Intelligence agencies have been monitoring online propaganda that may fuel radicalisation. Officials say monitoring news coverage and any related social‑media activity is essential to prevent further attacks.
Reports reveal Pakistan‑based social‑media accounts are spreading fake stories and using selective TV clips to create misleading narratives. The Inter‑Services Intelligence (ISI) is reportedly planning a recruitment push and similar operations as the Faridabad JeM module.
Investigations are still ongoing. The attack, which killed more than 13 people, was confirmed to be executed by the JeM Faridabad cell.
