In Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, Union Minister of Law and Justice Arjun Ram Meghwal teamed up with Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham to launch the Amrita International School of Law (AISL) on its vibrant campus. The exciting event happened on Thursday, marking a big step forward for legal education in India.
Speaking to the crowd, Meghwal stressed the human touch in today’s tech-driven world. “Artificial Intelligence can’t handle constitutional morality,” he said. As we dive into AI, 3D printing, and the Internet of Things, he added, “Human values will always guide our key decisions.”
The inauguration drew top legal minds. Justice KR Shriram, Chief Justice of the Rajasthan High Court, attended as the guest of honour. Justice L Victoria Gowri from the Madras High Court gave a inspiring keynote speech. Swami Ramakrishnananda Puri, Treasurer and Trustee of Mata Amritanandamayi Math and a key university council member, opened the event with a warm benedictory address.
The ceremony kicked off with the unveiling of AISL’s brand-new Moot Court Hall and modern academic facilities—perfect for hands-on legal training. Dr Anil G. Variath, Dean of AISL, greeted everyone with enthusiasm, while Dr P Venkat Rangan, the university’s Vice Chancellor, handed out mementoes to the special guests.
Dr P Ajith Kumar, the Registrar, wrapped things up with a heartfelt vote of thanks.
Making the day even more special, India’s Attorney General R Venkataramani sent a thoughtful message. He celebrated how this long-dreamed AISL vision, inspired by the compassionate ideals of Mata Amritanandamayi Devi (Amma), has finally become reality.
AISL in Coimbatore promises top-notch legal education that blends sharp skills with ethics and empathy. It offers integrated undergraduate and postgraduate law programs, real-world practice through moot courts and legal aid clinics, plus global partnerships for students to gain international exposure. This new school is set to shape the next generation of ethical lawyers in India.
