In Delhi, Noida and Ghaziabad the air has become dangerously polluted, with Air Quality Index (AQI) levels topping 400 in several locations. According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) and the Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control Board (UPPCB), the air is now in the “severe” category, meaning it can hurt anyone’s health.
Key spots with the worst AQI
- Delhi: Alipur – 420, Anand Vihar – 403, Ashok Vihar – 370, and Bawana and Burari Crossing over 390.
- Noida: Sector 125 – 345, Sector 116 – 357, Sector 62 – 323.
- Ghaziabad: Loni – 420, Vasundhara – 389, Sanjay Nagar – 360, Indirapuram – 334.
These numbers show air quality across the Delhi‑NCR region ranging from “very poor” to “severe.” The high pollution levels can worsen breathing problems, irritate the eyes, and raise the risk of lung infections, especially for children, the elderly and asthma sufferers.
What the weather forecast says
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicts that temperatures will dip over the next few days. In Noida, the maximum should fall from 29 °C today to about 27 °C by the 9th, while the minimum will drop from 19 °C to around 15 °C. Light drizzle is likely in parts of Delhi‑NCR on Tuesday or Wednesday, which might help clear the air a bit. A change in wind direction could also ease pollution levels, but the impact will be limited.
What people should do
- Avoid outdoor activities during morning and evening rush hours.
- Wear a mask whenever you need to go outside.
- Take special care if you’re a child, senior citizen, or have asthma or other respiratory issues.
By staying informed and taking precautions, residents can protect themselves from the harmful effects of this severe air pollution.
