Mangat Singh, a 32‑year‑old resident of Alwar in Rajasthan, was taken into police custody on Friday and sent on a 72‑hour remand today. Court‑ordered detectives say he is suspected of spying for Pakistan’s ISI, the country’s intelligence agency.
Rajasthan Intelligence filed the arrest under the Official Secrets Act of 1923. Special Public Prosecutor Sudesh Kumar told reporters that Singh was arrested yesterday and that his phone now shows contact with a Pakistani handler named “Isha Sharma.” The prosecutor added that investigators found a record of the spy sharing sensitive strategic data with the ISI and that there were payments of Rs48,000 in two separate transactions, with more transfers under review.
The police say Singh had a history of intimidation in Alwar. He reportedly forced people to give money under the pretense of performing rituals. While a surveillance team was monitoring a cantonment area in Govindgarh, they spotted his suspicious activities and linked him to the Pakistani handler who allegedly used gifts to get information.
The case was filed at the Special Police Station in Jaipur after the Rajasthan Criminal Investigation Department (CID) launched Operation Sindoor, a crackdown on foreign spies. Authorities are keeping the suspect under close watch as they investigate the extent of the intelligence leak and any further connections to ISI.
For now, Mangat Singh remains in police custody on a three‑day remand while investigators dig deeper into this Alwar spy case.
