In Chennai, a top official from actor-turned-politician Vijay’s TVK party has sparked major backlash with a fiery social media post calling for a “youth revolution” against the government. Aadhav Arjuna, TVK’s election campaign general secretary, shared the message on X late Monday night before quickly deleting it—but not before screenshots spread like wildfire online.
Arjuna’s post hit hard, warning that street protests lead to beatings, social media comments to arrests, and police acting as tools for those in power. He pushed for young people and Gen Z to rise up, just like they did in Sri Lanka and Nepal, to spark regime change and stop what he called “state terror.” He even compared the situation to “demons ruling” where “funeral grounds devour corpses.” Many viewed it as a dangerous call to action amid Tamil Nadu’s ongoing grief.
This drama unfolds right after the heartbreaking Karur tragedy at Vijay’s TVK rally in Velayuthampalayam on September 27. What started as an exciting election campaign event turned deadly when overcrowding caused panic and a stampede. The incident claimed 41 lives, including eight children, and injured more than 60 others. Families across the state are still mourning the victims of the TVK rally stampede, making Arjuna’s words feel especially raw.
Chief Minister M.K. Stalin rushed to Karur soon after the disaster. He set up an inquiry commission led by retired High Court judge Justice Aruna Jagadeesan to investigate. Stalin promised new rules and guidelines for political rallies based on the findings. He also asked people to avoid spreading rumors or harmful comments during this tough time.
Opposition leaders from AIADMK, led by general secretary and former CM Edappadi K. Palaniswami, offered condolences but pointed fingers at sloppy crowd management. Palaniswami demanded a real, unbiased probe—not just a show—to uncover what went wrong in the Karur stampede.
Vijay himself called the event an “unimaginable tragedy” and stepped up with support. He vowed to give Rs 20 lakh to each family who lost a loved one and called for full accountability on security and venue setup failures.
Reactions to Arjuna’s now-deleted post poured in fast. Ruling DMK leaders slammed it as “irresponsible” and said it could stir up trouble when emotions are already high. AIADMK folks saw it as a sign of TVK’s frustration after the deadly rally. Opposition voices worried it might inflame grieving families even more.
With Tamil Nadu still reeling from the Karur disaster, this youth revolution talk has cranked up the political tension to a boiling point.
