Union Home Minister Amit Shah landed in Kolkata today to kick off a busy schedule before heading to Bihar for election prep. His Kolkata stop includes launching a special Durga Puja pandal and paying a visit to the famous Kalighat Temple.
Shah started with the inauguration of the Durga Puja pandal at Santosh Mitra Square Sarbojanin Durgotsab Samity in north Kolkata. BJP councillor Sajal Ghosh organized the event, giving it a strong patriotic twist called “Operation Sindoor.” The theme honors the courage and sacrifices of the Indian Armed Forces, spotlighting their role in protecting the nation.
Inside the pandal, visitors get an up-close look at recreated scenes from a terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, and the bold response through Operation Sindoor. You’ll find life-sized models of key military gear, like the BrahMos missile and S-400 air defense systems. The setup stirs up national pride and respect for the troops who keep India safe.
Sajal Ghosh, general secretary of the puja committee, shared with why they chose this idea: “We want to spark patriotism in people’s hearts. Operation Sindoor speaks to every Indian—it’s about our forces’ honor, strength, and how they crushed the enemy to defend our country. This pandal brings that heroism to life for all to experience.”
After the event, Shah headed to the Kalighat Temple in south Kolkata for prayers, a key spiritual spot that draws devotees from across India.
From there, Shah moves to Bihar for a packed two-day trip on September 26-27. The focus? Ramping up Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) efforts ahead of the Bihar Assembly elections. He aims to boost worker morale and lock in strategies for the polls, expected later this year in October or November—though the Election Commission of India hasn’t set official dates yet.
On day one, Shah holds a private meeting with BJP workers in Bettiah. This follows similar sessions he led earlier in Dehri-on-Sone and Begusarai on September 18. Later, he joins a top-level strategy huddle at the BJP state office in Patna. Key players include Bihar BJP leaders, state secretaries, and organizers from other states helping with the campaign. Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, now the BJP’s election in-charge for Bihar, will attend too, according to party sources.
The next day, September 27, brings more action: a zonal meeting with workers in Sarayranjan, then a big rally-style gathering for party folks in Forbesganj.
BJP has split Bihar into five zones for targeted outreach, making sure every area gets the attention it needs to mobilize voters. Shah’s visit is all about firing up the team and sharpening plans for a strong showing in the Bihar elections.
Earlier this week, Dharmendra Pradhan told reporters about their confidence: “Under Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s leadership, we’ve governed Bihar for 20 years. With Prime Minister Modi’s vision and Nitish’s guidance, the people of Bihar will give us another chance to serve.”
