India’s Union Home Minister Amit Shah praised security forces on Monday for a big win against Naxalites in the remote Abujhmad region of Narayanpur district, along the Chhattisgarh-Maharashtra border.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Shah celebrated the elimination of two top Naxal leaders: Kadari Satyanarayana Reddy, alias Kosa, and Katta Ramchandra Reddy. Each carried a Rs 40 lakh bounty from Chhattisgarh authorities. “Our security forces are systematically dismantling the top leadership of the Naxals, breaking the backbone of red terror,” Shah wrote.
The operation stemmed from intelligence tips about Maoist cadres hiding in the area. Security teams launched a search, leading to intense exchanges of fire with the rebels. In the end, forces recovered the bodies of the two leaders, both in their 60s and from Karimnagar in Telangana. They also seized an AK-47 rifle, an INSAS rifle, a BGL launcher, explosives, Maoist literature, and other gear.
Bastar Inspector General P. Sundarraj explained that teams pressed on with the anti-Naxal drive despite tough terrain and bad weather. “Decisive operations against the banned Maoist group have hit them hard,” he said. The leaders, known as Raju Dada and Kosa Dada, had been key figures in the Dandakaranya Special Zonal Committee for over 30 years. Officials say they planned many attacks that killed security personnel and civilians.
Narayanpur Superintendent of Police Robinson noted the forces’ strong commitment to the central government’s vision and the needs of Bastar locals. Anti-Naxal operations continue in the region to curb the Maoist threat.
