On Oct 20 in Amaravati, Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, the president of the YSR Congress Party and former chief minister of Andhra Pradesh, took to the social‑media platform X to spar with the current government led by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu. Reddy slammed Naidu and his coalition for failing to deliver on promises made before the recent elections.
He asked whether a single “lamp” has been lit in the 18 months of current rule. Reddy listed the commitments Naidu had announced – a ₹3,000 monthly allowance for unemployed youth, ₹1,500 for every woman, a ₹4,000 pension from age 50, a ₹20,000 yearly aid to every farmer in addition to PM‑Kisan, ₹15,000 per child each year, three free LPG cylinders per household and free bus rides for women on all routes. None of these pledges have materialised, he said.
According to Reddy, while the YSR Congress government from 2019 to 2024 had introduced nearly 30 welfare schemes through Direct Benefit Transfer that “lit up” households, the current coalition has instead washed out the prior gains. He pointed out that basic areas such as schools, hospitals, agriculture, welfare, transparency and law‑and‑order have all taken a hit under Naidu’s team.
In a separate note, former YSR Congress minister Gudivada Amarnath welcomed technology minister Nara Lokesh’s recent admission of the success of the $4.2 billion Pinnapuram Solar, Wind and Pumped‑Storage Hydro Project. Amarnath said Lokesh had once mocked the project for political reasons but now tries to claim credit. He stressed that the vision and drive of Jagan Mohan Reddy, not Lokesh, brought the Pinnapuram initiative to life.
