ARM Sets Up New Bengaluru Facility to Design Cutting-Edge 2nm Chips
Bengaluru, the heart of India’s tech scene, just got a big boost with British semiconductor giant ARM launching its new design center. Union Minister for Electronics and IT Ashwini Vaishnaw shared the exciting news on Tuesday while inaugurating the facility. He told reporters that this Bengaluru unit will focus on designing advanced two-nanometer chips, a game-changer for everything from smartphones to servers.
"ARM will design two-nanometer chips right here in Bengaluru. Big congratulations to ARM and their amazing team," Vaishnaw said with enthusiasm. These tiny, powerful chips power nearly every gadget we use daily—think your mobile phone, data centers, and more.
Vaishnaw credited the growth to India’s stable policies since 2014 under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership. "We’ve built a forward-looking framework that’s driving success in the semiconductor industry," he added. The minister highlighted how PM Modi’s vision is pushing India toward becoming a developed nation, or Viksit Bharat, by 2047. It’s all about that fresh energy and innovative mindset.
A key part of India’s Semiconductor Mission is building a massive talent pool. "Global companies like ARM are flocking to India because of our skilled workforce," Vaishnaw explained. The mission supports 278 universities and institutions with the latest Electronic Design Automation (EDA) tools. Students are already designing chips, and 28 of them have been completed—proof of India’s rising semiconductor talent.
This move underscores Bengaluru’s role as a global hub for semiconductor design and chip innovation. With companies investing here, India is positioning itself as a leader in the semiconductor industry.
India Gears Up for Major AI Impact Summit in 2026
In other tech news, India is all set to host the next AI Impact Summit in February 2026. This follows the previous event in France, which Prime Minister Narendra Modi co-chaired in person. The summit will dive deep into AI safety, ethics, and its real-world impact.
To prepare, NITI Aayog recently organized a conclave showcasing AI’s ground-level applications in agriculture, healthcare, and education across Indian districts. "We shared the best practices so everyone can learn and grow," Vaishnaw noted during a Monday briefing.
The AI summits kicked off in Bletchley, UK, then moved to Seoul and France. Now, it’s India’s turn to lead the conversation on responsible AI development. This event highlights India’s growing influence in artificial intelligence and global tech forums.
