Guwahati, Assam – The investigation into the sudden death of popular singer Zubeen Garg has moved forward, says the Special Investigation Team (SIT) chief and the Special Director General of the CID in Assam, Munna Prasad Gupta.

Arrests made – Seven people have been detained so far in connection with Garg’s death. The arrests include the festival’s main organiser Shyamkanu Mahanta, Garg’s manager Siddharth Sharma, his bandmate Shekhar Jyoti Goswami, co‑singer Amritprava Mahanta, a cousin of the singer and suspended Assam police officer Sandipan Garg, and two police officers, Nandeswar Bora and Paresh Baishya.

Ongoing probes – The SIT has issued notices to 11 Assamese nationals living in Singapore, asking them to come to India and give statements in person. One of those requested has already appeared, and his statement has been recorded.

Forensic work – The Central Forensic Science Laboratory in Delhi has produced a viscera report for the late singer. This report was sent to Guwahati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH). A combined team of doctors from GMCH and AIIMS Guwahati will review the findings and produce a final report for the court. Families of Zubeen Garg will also receive a copy of the report.

The case has drawn international attention, with investigators working closely with Singaporean authorities to track down all suspects and gather evidence.
SIT Chief Gupta emphasized that the investigation will continue without delay. “We hope the others will also join the investigation soon,” he said. “We have arrested seven persons so far, and the inquiry is ongoing.”
The case remains under close scrutiny, with people across Assam and beyond hoping for a swift resolution and justice for the late singer.
