Arunachal Pradesh’s upcoming panchayat polls are set for next month, and the state’s top officials are working hard to keep the elections safe and fair.
Governor Lt‑General (Retd) K.T. Parnaik met a delegation from the Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) on Friday at Raj Bhavan. The APCC team—led by President Bosiram Siram and joined by working President Techi Tagi Tara, Secretary‑cum‑Spokesperson Chera Taya and Kon Jirjo Jotham—expressed worries about the security situation in the rural districts of Tirap, Changlang and Longding.
The governor listened closely and promised that the state government had been alerted and that all security agencies are now on high alert. He said he had already led several review meetings in Namsai, Khonsa and Longding, bringing together elected officials, police and other security forces. During these talks, the governor stressed that the polls must be “peaceful, free and fair,” reflecting true democracy.
In a statement, the APCC said the governor was receptive and took the concerns seriously. He assured the delegation that he would take the matter to Chief Minister Pema Khandu, Chief Secretary Manish Gupta and Director General of Police Anand Mohan, to put additional safeguards in place.
This comes after the last general elections in December 2020, when the State Election Commission also held by‑elections for some Gram and Zila Parishad seats. With the next round of Panchayat elections looming, all eyes are on Siranik and the state’s security teams to deliver a smooth, secure voting process.
