Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann is currently unwell with a high fever, leading to the cancellation of an important cabinet meeting scheduled for Friday. Due to his health, he also cancelled a visit to flood-hit villages in Kapurthala district along with AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal, who was supposed to accompany him.
The floods in Punjab have caused widespread destruction, with 43 people losing their lives so far. Over 1,690 villages across 23 districts have been submerged, affecting more than 3.80 lakh people. Relief and rescue operations are underway to help those affected.
Arvind Kejriwal shared that CM Mann was planning to visit the flood zones but fell ill after several days of continuous travel without enough rest or food. Despite his condition, the Chief Minister’s main concern remains providing relief to Punjab’s flood victims. Kejriwal noted that Mann asked him to rest for a couple of days but was still focused on helping the affected people.
In response to the floods, CM Mann has ordered that a government officer be stationed in every marooned village. This move aims to improve communication between residents and officials, ensuring that people can quickly share their problems and get timely help. Ministers are also busy visiting flood-affected areas, inspecting embankments, and distributing relief supplies.
Punjab’s Finance Minister, Harpal Singh Cheema, raised concerns over the delayed assistance from the central government. He pointed out that while aid was promptly sent to Afghanistan, Punjab is still waiting for enough financial help and relief materials. Cheema urged the Centre to show the same compassion to Punjab as it did to Afghanistan during its time of crisis.
Overall, Punjab is battling severe floods, and efforts are ongoing to provide relief and support to those in need, even as leaders prioritize health and safety.
