Assam’s Deputy Legislative Assembly Speaker, Numal Momin, told reporters on Friday that he sees a clear win for the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in the upcoming Bihar elections. He said voters will choose between development and the lack of it.
Momin pointed out that the NDA’s platform is built on progress. “The people ask whether they want an uneducated chief minister or someone who is educated,” he said. “The BJP has done a great job in Bihar—after Lalu Prasad Yadav’s rule, the state is prospering and Biharis are finally getting their due.”
He added that the result in Bihar should not affect elections in Assam or West Bengal, because each state faces its own challenges. “Every state has different demographics and problems,” Momin said. “West Bengal is unique, and its voters will decide what they want.”
Momin also shared his view on West Bengal’s next poll. He said the BJP will win there too, which he believes has made Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee nervous. “She is mobilizing her supporters to attack BJP MPs,” he said.
In other remarks, Momin criticized former prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru, calling him a “great vote thief” and defending the government’s “SIR” exercise to clean up voter lists. “Many voters—including Bangladeshi and Rohingya—have been removed from the rolls,” he said, condemning the 1971 removal of Nehru’s votes in a 1948 Congress election.
Momin’s comments came as political parties across India gear up for the critical Bihar elections, with the NDA looking to secure a landslide victory on a platform of development. As the polls approach, voters in Assam, West Bengal, and Bihar will weigh promises of progress against the reality of their local issues.
