In the lush forests of Assam’s Kaziranga National Park, a new baby elephant was born, marking a hopeful moment on World Animal Day. Chandra Mohammed Patowary, the state’s Forest Minister, confirmed that Kuwari, one of Kaziranga’s resident elephants, has welcomed a healthy female calf. The newborn, named “Mayabini,” meaning hope and harmony, was celebrated on the social‑media platform X where the minister posted a joyful video of the mother and calf.
Patowary’s post read: “Heartening news on #WorldAnimalDay – Kuwari has given birth to a healthy female calf! With immense affection and public goodwill, we’ve named her MAYABINI – a symbol of new life, hope, and harmony in the wild.” The video shows the calf nudging its mother, a heart‑warming sight for wildlife lovers around the world.
Earlier today, Madhya Pradesh’s Chief Minister Mohan Yadav visited the same park for a jeep safari. He praised Kaziranga’s rich wildlife, especially its thriving rhino population, which exceeds 3,000 individuals. Yadav also highlighted his state’s growing conservation efforts, noting that over 70 elephants have recently been relocated to Bandhavgarh and other sanctuaries—an initiative that had not been in place just two years ago.
During his visit, Yadav said he was impressed by the park’s management and plans to work with Assam’s Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to share best practices and further improve wildlife protection in both states.
World Animal Day, observed every October 4, aims to raise awareness about animal welfare and protect endangered species worldwide. The day honors the legacy of Saint Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals, and encourages individuals and organizations to advocate for animal rights and well‑being.
