Assam emerges among top performers in State Energy Efficiency Index

Assam Makes Proud Mark in Energy Efficiency Index 2024
Guwahati, September 5 — Assam has achieved a big win in the latest State Energy Efficiency Index 2024, ranking among the top states in India for energy-saving efforts. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma called this a proud moment, praising the state’s policies and ongoing commitment to sustainable development.
On social media platform X (formerly Twitter), the Chief Minister shared, “Assam shines bright in the recent State Energy Efficiency Index 2024! Leading the nation with effective policies and rising energy efficiency, Assam sets the gold standard for sustainable growth through effective implementation.”
The annual index reviews how well states are doing in promoting energy efficiency. Assam was ranked among the top in the category for states using between 1-5 million tonnes of oil equivalent (MTOE) of energy. Experts say this achievement shows how Assam is balancing economic growth with protecting the environment.
The government credits this success to proactive measures like reducing energy consumption, expanding renewable energy sources, and following national energy standards. Key improvements in the power sector, building energy efficiency, and transport have played a major role in boosting Assam’s energy management.
A senior official from the energy department said, “This is not just an achievement for Assam but an endorsement of our long-term plan for sustainable growth. Our policies aim to meet current needs while ensuring a cleaner, greener future.”
The Chief Minister emphasized that energy efficiency is vital for Assam’s development. The recognition will motivate the state to keep pushing for more sustainable initiatives.
The State Energy Efficiency Index is prepared by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency in partnership with NITI Aayog and other organizations. It assesses states on various fronts, including power supply, transportation, buildings, industries, and agriculture.
By ranking high, Assam has set a strong example — proving that economic progress and responsible energy use can go hand in hand. This achievement highlights Assam’s leadership in building a sustainable future for all.
