At 10 pm on Monday, BDO Shravan Kumar was inspecting a site on Untari Road when an unregistered truck drove directly at him and his team. The driver allegedly sped straight toward the officials, but they managed to avoid being crushed. The tractor crashed into a nearby hut, injuring cattle that were tied there.

Police arrived soon after and brought the situation under control. The next day, the BDO and the station house officer returned to the site for a re‑inspection. Police officials say raids are underway to arrest those involved in the attack and that they are taking action against the culprits.

The attack has drawn hot commentary from Jharkhand’s opposition. Leader of the Opposition Babulal Marandi slammed the state government for allegedly protecting the sand mafia. In a social‑media post, he said the Soren‑led administration had made “honesty punishable by death” and accused the government of ignoring the safety of its officers. “If even government officials aren’t safe, how can the public expect protection?” Marandi asked. He demanded the police and the government explain how BDO Shravan Kumar’s safety will be ensured and who will deliver justice when the police side with gangsters.

The incident highlights the ongoing problem of illegal sand mining in Jharkhand, an issue that has drawn national attention. Law‑enforcement agencies say they will continue to crack down on the sand mafia and ensure the safety of officials on the ground.
