Kolkata, Oct. 18 – The West Bengal government stepped in to help 11 migrant workers from Murshidabad who were stranded in Oman after a dishonest recruitment agency left them without a job or support.
The West Bengal government asked the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) to intervene. The Indian Embassy in Oman immediately got involved and started taking care of the workers. They are now receiving food and shelter while the authorities work on getting them back home.
“We urge the MEA to act quickly and compassionately so these workers can return to their families safely,” the government said in a statement released by the Trinamool Congress (TMC). The statement added that once they get back, the state will help them find new jobs and create alternative livelihoods.
This is not the first time the West Bengal government has helped its citizens abroad. TMC officials said the state’s leadership, led by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, has previously assisted workers from other states when they faced danger overseas.
The effort highlights the West Bengal government’s commitment to protecting its overseas workers and ensuring they can return home safely.
