Kolkata, West Bengal – A shocking crime in the suburb of Kadamtala has rattled the community. A four‑year‑old girl was found dead in her home, and police say the killer was her own grandfather.
The incident happened on Sunday evening. Neighbors heard the child’s frantic cries and rushed to the house. When they entered, they saw the little girl lying in a pool of blood with many injuries. The floor and walls were covered in bloodstains, indicating a violent struggle.
Emergency crews took the child to Subhashgram Rural Hospital. Doctors declared her already dead, and the police were immediately called. The mother works at a major electrical store in Kolkata and the father runs a private hospital – both were away at work when the tragedy occurred.
Police arrested the grandfather and are holding the grandmother and a nanny for questioning. A senior officer from the South 24 Parganas police confirmed that the grandfather confessed during interrogation. He reportedly used a sharp weapon to kill the child. Officers say he has a history of irritability and may have a mental illness.
The body is in for a post‑mortem examination, and investigators are checking whether the grandmother and nanny had any role. Residents describe the accused as a reclusive, temperamental man who kept the girl locked indoors and never let her play outside. “He was very hostile toward children,” a neighbor told reporters.
This tragedy has left the neighborhood in mourning and sparked concerns about child safety and mental health in families. The case highlights the need for community vigilance and better support for mental health issues.
