Huge Exam Nears for West Bengal Class 9 and 10 Teachers: What You Need to Know
Kolkata, September 6 – The West Bengal School Service Commission (WBSSC) is gearing up to hold the crucial Teacher Recruitment Exam for Classes 9 and 10 this Sunday. Over 3.19 lakh candidates are expected to appear at more than 636 exam centers across the state, as part of a massive effort to fill over 35,700 teaching posts for grades 9 to 12.
More than 5.65 lakh people have applied for both phases of the recruitment process, making this one of the biggest exams in the region. WBSSC Chairperson Siddhartha Majumdar emphasized that strict security measures will be in place. “Any attempt at cheating will be caught within 30 minutes. Each exam paper has special security features, and admit cards will be verified using barcode scanning. No one will leave the hall until the exam ends,” he said during a press conference.
Candidates are advised to report to their centers by 10 a.m. sharp. Entry will close at 11:45 a.m., and the exam will start at noon. Question papers will reach exam centers between 10 and 10:30 a.m., with distribution beginning at 11:45 a.m. There are tight checks to ensure fair conduct, including metal detectors and security guards.
However, Majumdar didn’t clarify whether any ineligible or tainted candidates—those involved in previous recruitment scams—might appear in this exam. The Supreme Court had ordered the release of a list naming 1,806 candidates who had benefited from a recruitment scam, and they are barred from participating this time. But allegations suggest that many more tainted candidates may still have jobs without their names being officially disclosed. It remains unclear if these candidates will face the exam or be disqualified.
To ensure fairness, the exam centers have set up separate enclosures for women candidates, and female staff members will conduct security checks for female applicants. Candidates are strictly prohibited from bringing phones, smartwatches, calculators, or opaque items such as handbags. Transparent water bottles, pens, and folders are allowed, and the SSC has arranged free pens at each center. Even exam supervisors and officials are not allowed to carry or use phones inside the exam halls.
This exam aims to bring transparency and fairness to the recruitment process, ensuring deserving candidates have a fair chance. Stay tuned for updates and remember to follow all instructions on exam day for a smooth experience!
