Bengaluru North Corporation Cracks Down on Single-Use Plastics and Boosts Public Cleanliness
Bengaluru’s North City Corporation is taking strong steps to fight banned single-use plastics and keep the city clean. Under Commissioner Pommala Sunil Kumar’s guidance, teams launched awareness drives across various wards to stop plastic violations and improve public sanitation, as per an official release.
Officials from the Solid Waste Management Department, Health Inspectors, and the Marshals team joined forces for inspections. They targeted commercial shops and storage units in the North City Corporation area, focusing on curbing single-use plastic misuse in Bengaluru.
In a big haul, the teams seized about 350 kilograms of banned single-use plastics from four shops and six storage units. They slapped a hefty fine of ₹2,76,000 on the violators and handed out stern warnings to avoid using these plastics in the future.
The drive didn’t stop there. In the Hennur-Bellary Road (HBR) Layout, the corporation fined people caught littering on roadsides. Teams urged residents to stay responsible and warned against dumping waste in public spots, pushing for better Bengaluru cleanliness.
To support frontline workers, the corporation organized a special health camp for Pourakarmikas at the Vidyaranyapura mustering point. The event offered free general health check-ups and sessions on preventing communicable diseases, helping workers stay healthy and informed.
At the camp, staff checked blood pressure, diabetes, and haemoglobin levels, then gave personalized medical advice. Namma Clinic health experts and other officials joined in to make it a success.
This effort comes soon after Bengaluru’s new city corporations kicked off on September 2. The five bodies—Bengaluru Central, North, South, East, and West—operate under the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) to streamline urban services and make life easier for citizens with better administration.
