A 34‑year‑old head constable, Sharanappa, is believed to have taken his own life at his rented home near Byatarayanapura police station in western Bengaluru. Police say he was a member of the City Armed Reserve headquarters.
Detective Commissioner Girish confirmed that Sharanappa might have hanged himself, but no death note has yet been found, and authorities are still trying to uncover the motive. He is survived by his wife, Shailashree, who also works as a constable at Magadi Road Traffic Police Station, and their two children. An investigation is ongoing.
In another incident in Karnataka, Venkatesh Kurubara, the 31‑year‑old president of the BJP Yuva Morcha in Gangavathi town of Koppal district, was murdered on Tuesday. According to Superintendent of Police Ram L Arasiddi, the killing may be linked to Kurubara’s help to police in a 2003 case involving his friend. Police say they will arrest the accused suspects as soon as possible.
Kurubara was on his way from Devi Camp to Gangavathi when a group of attackers used long maces to stab him to death in front of Lilavati Elubhu Kilu Hospital on Koppal Road. After the attack, the assailants fled the scene. Police think the murder could stem from a gang feud over old grudges and gambling.
Both cases highlight ongoing challenges for Bengaluru and Koppal police as they work to protect residents and solve violent crimes in Karnataka.
