Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann honored freedom fighter Bhagat Singh on his birth anniversary Sunday by laying flowers at his memorial in Chandigarh. Mann announced that the new Bhagat Singh Heritage Complex in Khatkar Kalan—Bhagat Singh’s hometown—will open to the public soon.
Construction crews are working fast on the project, which costs 51.70 crore rupees and stands as a major tribute to the revolutionary hero who gave his life to free India from British rule. “This complex will inspire young people to serve the nation without selfish motives,” Mann said. He stressed that it will keep alive Bhagat Singh’s incredible story of sacrifice, sharp mind, and bold spirit for generations to come.
Visitors won’t just see a building—they’ll step into an immersive journey through Bhagat Singh’s life and India’s fight for independence. The site features a stunning thematic gate and a 350-meter heritage street linking the Shaheed Bhagat Singh Museum to his family home. Along the way, sculptures, 2D and 3D wall art, and lifelike mannequins bring the colonial era and freedom struggle to life.
Inside, a 700-seat air-conditioned auditorium highlights a detailed model of Bhagat Singh’s ancestral home in Lyallpur, now part of Pakistan. Workers are also restoring his actual childhood home in Khatkar Kalan and creating a digital recreation of his famous courtroom trial to let people feel the intensity of his revolutionary passion.
Mann noted that the on-site library is getting a modern upgrade with digital tools for a deeper dive into history. Other attractions include a tourist information center, cozy cottages, beautiful gardens, a musical fountain, and plenty of parking to make visits easy and enjoyable.
Before his speech, Mann placed a wreath at Bhagat Singh’s statue and paid respects at the memorial for his father, Sardar Kishan Singh. The Bhagat Singh Heritage Complex promises to become a key spot for anyone interested in India’s independence heroes.
