Bhojpuri superstar Pawan Singh meets JP Nadda ahead of Bihar elections

Bhojpuri star Pawan Singh dropped by Union Minister and BJP chief JP Nadda’s home in New Delhi on Tuesday. It’s been over a year since the party kicked him out, but Singh hinted at a possible reunion when reporters asked if he’s rejoining the BJP. “When did we separate? We’re together,” he replied with a smile.

This meeting comes right before Bihar’s assembly elections, set for October or November. The polls are heating up in the state, with the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) under Chief Minister Nitish Kumar facing off against the opposition Mahagathbandhan led by the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD).

Singh’s rocky history with the BJP started in 2024. The party expelled him for going against their rules by running as an independent candidate in the Karakat Lok Sabha seat in Bihar. That move defied the official NDA pick for the constituency during the national elections.

Earlier, the BJP tried to get Singh on board for the Asansol seat in West Bengal to challenge Trinamool Congress leader Shatrughan Sinha. But Singh backed out amid backlash over his controversial Bhojpuri songs and films. The party then turned to Surinderjeet Singh Ahluwalia for Asansol, and Singh shifted his focus to contesting independently from Bihar’s Karakat area.

Bihar’s political scene is buzzing now, with leaders from both sides exchanging sharp words as the elections near. In the 243-seat Bihar Assembly, the NDA holds a strong position with 131 members: BJP has 80 MLAs, JD(U) has 45, HAM(S) has 4, and two independent lawmakers back them.
