Bihar: AIMIM demands entry into INDIA Bloc; beats drums outside Lalu Prasad Yadav’s residence

AIMIM’s Dramatic Push for RJD Alliance in Bihar Elections

Patna, Sep 11: In a bold move ahead of the Bihar assembly elections, the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) is making waves by demanding an alliance with the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD). AIMIM leaders, led by state president Akhtarul Iman, showed up at Lalu Prasad Yadav’s home on 10 Circular Road in Patna, banging drums and holding up eye-catching posters to grab attention.

Security stopped them at the gate, but their message rang out loud. AIMIM wants to team up with the INDIA bloc to avoid splitting minority and secular votes in key areas like Seemanchal. One poster hit hard: "AIMIM’s positive step to unite secular votes. Lalu-Tejashwi, listen to the drums at your door. Open up for alliance, or your MY equation will be out in the open."

Akhtarul Iman told reporters that AIMIM has tried reaching out to RJD and other INDIA bloc parties multiple times, but got no reply. "We even messaged through RJD MLAs, and they suggested we skip the elections this time," he said. Still, AIMIM is open to partnering, even after RJD poached four of their MLAs who won seats in the 2020 polls.

Back in 2020, AIMIM grabbed five seats in Seemanchal, including Iman’s win from Amour. But four of those MLAs switched to RJD, leaving AIMIM with just one. Now, Iman laid out three big demands: six assembly seats for AIMIM, a special Seemanchal Development Authority with funding, and reservations for Dalits and minorities based on their population share.

Iman drew a parallel to the 2005 elections, when Ram Vilas Paswan offered support to Lalu Yadav if a minority leader became Chief Minister—but Lalu turned it down. "The story’s repeating. He welcomes BJP but shuts out AIMIM from the INDIA bloc," Iman claimed.

He took a dig at Tejashwi Yadav too: "The Opposition Leader acts like he never got our letter. Big shots have thick skin, so we brought drums to make sure he hears us. We want in the alliance to keep secular votes together. If not, communal forces win, and we’ll all pay the price."

With minority votes playing a huge role in Seemanchal, AIMIM’s flashy protest echoes their 2020 impact, where they dented RJD’s chances and made Tejashwi’s power push tougher. As Bihar elections heat up, this alliance drama could shake up the vote math in the region.
