The Bihar Assembly elections will take place in two rounds on November 6 and November 11, with the winner announced on November 14. The Election Commission of India (ECI) confirmed the schedule on Monday, urging voters that the poll will run smoothly and peacefully.

Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar called the state’s vote the “mother of all elections” and explained that a special review, called Special Intensive Revision (SIR), cleaned up the electoral rolls after 22 years. The new list lists 7.43 crore voters, including 14 lakh first‑time voters. Political parties will get the final roll and can ask for corrections until ten days before candidate nominations.

The ECI is also tackling misinformation. Each of the 243 constituencies will have a dedicated observer—a change from the previous system where one observer covered more than one seat. The commission said it will monitor social media and stop “fake news” at the district level.

The dates were set just after the EC’s team finished a review of Bihar’s readiness, meeting leaders from all major parties and checking logistics. Bihar’s current assembly will end on November 22, so the poll must finish before then.

To maximise voter turnout, the election timetable avoids India’s biggest festivals, especially Diwali and Chhath, which fall between October 18 and 28. The 2025 contest will pit the BJP‑JDU ruling alliance against the Mahagathbandhan led by RJD and the Congress. A new player, Prashant Kishor’s Jan Suraaj Party, is also expected to add a fresh dynamic.

In 2020, the National Democratic Alliance won 125 seats, while the Mahagathbandhan secured 110; the RJD emerged as the largest party with 75 seats. That election saw a 56.93 % turnout, the first big election after the pandemic.

For voter convenience, the poll panel is reducing the average number of voters per booth from 1,500 to 1,200 and will set up 90,000 polling stations across Bihar. Extra security will be provided by the Central Armed Police Forces to ensure a calm and orderly election day.

With these preparations, the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections aim to deliver a clear, fair result that reflects the state’s will.
