In the Mahua Assembly circle, the first votes are already putting the crowd to work.
Sanjay Kumar Singh of LJP (RV) is ahead with about 2,300 marks, while Tej Pratap Yadav, the new leader of the Janshakti Janata Dal, trails with roughly 5,800 votes. The old‑guard RJD‑candidate, Mukesh Kumar Raushan, is in between, and the AIMIM seat‑holder, Amit Kumar, is not far off.
Tej Pratap Yadav had been the MLA for Mahua in 2015. After a split from the RJD earlier this year, he set up the Janshakti Janata Dal. He had also held the seat for his party in 2020, but the early ballot numbers show his current challenge.
The results in Mahua are part of a bigger picture. At 10:30 a.m., the Election Commission of India (ECI) released live trends for all 243 Bihar Assembly seats. The ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) leads in 127 constituencies, with the BJP counting 72 and JD(U) 75 seats. The Mahagathbandhan—led by the RJD—holds 42 seats, with the RJD itself in the front of an 41‑seat count.
This early advantage for the NDA signals a solid lead for the union‑backed coalition and a setback for the opposition front.
The counting began at 8 a.m. across the state. Postal ballots were read first, followed by the electronic voting machine (EVM) results from 8:30 a.m. The process is guarded by 243 returning officers and an equal number of election observers appointed by the Commission. More than 18,000 counting agents stand by to keep the work transparent, and strict entry rules—valid passes only, no phones allowed—are in place.
Bihar voters turned out in force: over 70 million people recorded their votes in two phases on November 6 and 11, deciding whether the NDA or the Mahagathbandhan keeps the reins. In the previous assembly, the NDA had 131 seats (80 BJP, 45 JD(U), 4 HAM(S), 2 independents). The opposition bloc had 111 seats, including 77 for the RJD, 19 for the Congress, and smaller numbers for the CPI(ML) and CPI factions.
As the boxes open, local supporters cheer and then wait for the official tallies. If the national trend continues, the NDA may seal its hold on Bihar, while the Mahagathbandhan will have to regroup. For now, Mahua’s early points add the first hint of the overall story unfolding across the state’s 243 seats.
