Patna, Nov. 14 – The latest count shows BJP’s Satish Kumar Yadav leaping ahead in Raghopur, a seat that has long been a bastion for the RJD and the Yadav family. Early results from the Election Commission of India indicate Satish scored more than 17,500 votes, putting him far ahead of RJD chief Tejashwi Yadav and JanSuraj’s Chanchal Kumar.
Tejashwi Yadav, who has held the Raghopur seat since 2015 and won by a margin of over 38,000 votes in 2020, is fighting to keep his stronghold. The constituency has a family legacy: his father, Lalu Prasad Yadav, and mother, Rabri Devi, both represented it before him. The BJP’s choice, Satish Kumar, previously beat Rabri Devi in 2010 as a JD(U) candidate.
Another challenger is Prem Kumar of the Janshakti Janata Dal, a party founded by Tejashwi’s brother, Tej Pratap Yadav. Despite these rivals, the BJP still clears the early tally.
At 11:15 a.m., the Election Commission reported:
– JD(U) leading 79 seats
– BJP ahead of its ally with 83 seats
– NDA coalition ahead of 188 constituencies
– Mahagathbandhan trailing with 44 seats
Counting for all 243 Bihar Assembly seats began at 8 a.m., starting with postal ballots, followed by electronic voting machine counts at 8:30 a.m. The process ran under tight security across the state.
Both alliances spoke confidently. NDA leaders thanked voters for trusting Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s promises and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s development work. RJD and the Mahagathbandhan argued that voters wanted change and expressed optimism that Tejashwi would form the next government.
Speaking to during the count, Tejashwi said, “Change will happen, a government will be formed,” underscoring his belief in the election’s outcome.
