Patna, November 17 – Late Monday night, a surprise move by two top JDU leaders added fresh twists to Bihar’s political scene as the NDA readies for a swearing‑in ceremony in Patna.
Union Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh (also called Lalan Singh) and JDU Working President Sanjay Jha boarded a chartered flight to Delhi without warning. Sources say the BJP high‑command pulled them there for a discussion. Their abrupt departure has prompted many to wonder if any last‑minute trouble is threatening the new government’s formation.
Neither Lalan Singh nor Sanjay Jha spoke to the press at Patna Airport. Still, the event has turned heads and sparked speculation about possible hurdles before the cabinet takes office.
## Fast‑tracked government formation
Bihar is moving quickly. The NDA’s legislature party meeting is set for November 19, when the alliance will elect its new leader. Nitish Kumar is expected to resign that same day, leading to the dissolution of the 17th Bihar Legislative Assembly. The swearing‑in ceremony will then happen on November 20 at Gandhi Maidan, a grand event that is likely to host Prime Minister Narendra Modi, other Union ministers, state chief ministers and deputy chief ministers, plus several high‑profile guests.
Bihar BJP State President Dilip Jaiswal said the team is “on a war footing” and that they are working hard to make the ceremony a success.
## Quick cabinet meeting
Earlier on Monday, former Chief Minister Nitish Kumar chaired a final cabinet meeting at the secretariat. Deputy Chief Ministers Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha were in attendance. The meeting lasted just 15 minutes and approved three proposals. Afterward, Nitish Kumar, Samrat Choudhary and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Vijay Kumar Chaudhary visited Raj Bhavan to submit the cabinet’s recommendations to Governor Arif Mohammad Khan. He spent about 22 minutes there before returning to his residence.
Nitish’s brief visits and talks with senior party leaders further fed the buzz surrounding JDU leaders’ sudden trip to Delhi.

In short, as Bihar’s leaders shuffle and channel the NDA’s plans, the focus remains on a smooth swearing‑in and a clear path to push forward the new government. The politics of Patna, the role of the BJP, the activities of the JDU, and the upcoming ceremony at Gandhi Maidan are all on the front line of India’s news today.
