Patna, Oct 21 — Because the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) was rolled out for the Bihar Assembly Elections in 2025, election officials and police across the state have made a big haul of illicit items, the Election Commission of India (ECI) said on Tuesday.
Across Bihar, government agencies – from district administration and police to the excise and customs departments – have been working together to root out votes that might be bought with cash, booze, drugs or other bribes. The joint effort has already seized over ₹71.57 crore in contraband.
The day before, Jamui police, teamed with the Bihar Special Task Force (STF) and the CRPF, confiscated a loaded AK‑47 magazine and 12 live cartridges. On Tuesday alone, officials found ₹2.57 crore worth of items: ₹31.3 lakh in cash, ₹1.326 crore in liquor, ₹85 lakh in narcotics, ₹20 lakh in precious metals and ₹8.2 lakh in freebies and other goodies.
Since the MCC took effect, the total seizure figures now read:
* ₹5.741 crore cash
* ₹27.26 crore liquor
* ₹17.74 crore drugs and narcotics
* ₹5.509 crore precious metals
* ₹15.32 crore in freebies and other materials
The ECI says these raids help keep the upcoming elections fair and transparent, removing any chance of coercion or freebies that could sway voters.
Beyond the seizures, the Commission notes that during the election period, it has executed 313,136 bail bonds under various criminal sections, made 841 arrests under anti‑terror legislation and other laws, lifted 14,707 non‑bailable warrants and set up 1,036 check posts across Bihar.
The Chief Electoral Officer’s office has asked every district to step up monitoring and act fast on complaints filed through online portals like C‑Vigil and ECINET. The goal is clear: let voters cast their ballots without fear or temptation.
