In Patna on October 21, CPI‑ML National General Secretary Dipankar Bhattacharya said he supports former Union Minister R.K. Singh’s call for voters in Bihar to avoid candidates with criminal records in the state’s upcoming Assembly elections.
At a press conference in Ara, Bhattacharya warned that “people must stay away from those who use crime to drive politics.” He said such tactics erode democracy. The comment came a day after R.K. Singh—now a BJP leader—publicly urged voters to reject candidates with criminal backgrounds, no matter which party they belong to. Singh named a mix of BJP and opposition politicians, including JD‑U’s Anant Kumar Singh, RJD’s Osama Shahab, and BJP’s Samrat Chaudhary, all of whom face legal scrutiny.
When reporters asked whether Bhattacharya agreed with Singh’s criticism of Grand Alliance candidates, he sidestepped the question and shifted the focus to his party’s clean‑politics stance. Bhattacharya emphasized CPI‑ML’s dedication to fighting for jobs, education and law and order in Bihar. He proudly announced the party will field candidates in three assembly seats in Bhojpur district, a region known for its mass movements.
“We think the people in Bhojpur will trust CPI‑ML because we fight for real changes,” he said. “This election is a referendum against corruption and crime in Bihar.” His supporters, many party workers, answered his remarks enthusiastically.
R.K. Singh’s message has kept the debate alive in Bihar’s political circles. By naming candidates from both the NDA and the Grand Alliance, he has pushed voters to choose only honest and clean leaders for the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections.
