In Patna, the State Security Forces and several state and central agencies met at the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) Frontier Headquarters on Tuesday. The gathering came as the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) for the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections takes effect, and it is part of a push to tighten security across the state.

Inspector General Nishit Kumar Ujjwal sat at the head of the table, stressing the need for real‑time intelligence swapping and joint operations. The meeting drew senior officers from the Bihar Police, Special Task Force, Customs, Narcotics Control Bureau, Directorate of Revenue Intelligence, Enforcement Directorate, Financial Intelligence Unit, Income Tax, Railways, Excise, and Prohibition Department, in addition to SSB officials.

All participants agreed on a coordinated approach aimed at keeping the elections free, fair, and peaceful. They promised to keep working together to prevent crime, maintain public order, and secure election broadcasts—especially in border towns where crowds often grow.

In another high‑profile operation, the Excise Department in Gopalganj stepped up its crackdown on illegal liquor smuggling after the MCC was adopted. Acting on a tip, officers seized 131 cartons of foreign liquor from a pickup van near Jigna Dhala under the Mirganj police station. The smugglers had hidden the liquor under a bed to evade detection. One suspect was taken into custody, and the bad‑tasting contraband was valued at roughly ₹15 lakh.

Superintendent Amritesh Kumar Jha said the department has kept its eyes peeled since the MCC began. “We’ve intensified checks at all checkpoints and border points to stop the flow of illegal alcohol and cash,” he told reporters. The excise team also confiscated the vehicle used in the smuggling ring, and investigators are now probing for more members of the network.

These actions show Bihar’s law‑enforcement agencies are stepping up to protect voters and keep the 2025 elections orderly across the state.
