In the months leading up to Bihar’s Assembly election, the Republican Navayud (RJD) has faced sharp criticism for nominating several candidates with criminal records. BJP spokesperson Shahnawaz Hussain told that out of RJD’s 143 nominees, many are under bail, have spent time in jail, or face upcoming sentences. He said this record shows deep division inside the Mahagathbandhan (Grand Alliance).
Hussain added: “The NDA will win. With Nitish Kumar’s leadership and backing from Upendra Kushwaha, Chirag Paswan and Amit Shah’s strategy, we expect a big majority. Mahagathbandhan leaders quarrel with each other, so they cannot stand against the NDA.”
The rivalry is visible not only in the headlines but in actual candidate placements. In Darbhanga district, Tejashwi Yadav plans to campaign where a rival is using the RJD symbol, showcasing the confusion over seat‑sharing agreements. The alliance struggles with vote‑sharing:
* In Gaura Bauram, RJD originally named Afzal Ali Khan a candidate, gave him the party symbol, then swapped the seat to Mukesh Sahni’s Vikassheel Insaan Party (VIP). VIP candidate Santosh Sahni is now the official nominee, forcing former RJD team members to back VIP.
* A similar incident happened in Rajasthan’s Lok Sabha contest. Congress first fielded Arvind Damor, then switched to Bharat Adivasi Party’s Rajkumar Roat. Damor dodged the party’s symbol withdrawal request and still fought the election, winning 60,000+ votes and making the race even tighter.
These cases highlight how unsettled seat‑sharing can hurt parties in a close race. As the Bihar Assembly election approaches, the BJP’s message is clear: the NDA’s united front will win, while the Mahagathbandhan’s internal quarrels will cost it votes.
