The long‑running fight over how the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) will split seats in the 2025 Bihar Assembly polls appears to have ended. Sources say the deal will be announced on Saturday – the same day the alliance will reveal how many seats each partner will contest.
Union Minister for Food Processing, Chirag Paswan, heads the Lok Janshakti Party (LJP). After a flurry of talks in New Delhi, Paswan is expected to get 25 to 26 seats in the 243‑seat Bihar legislature. The deal was brokered by BJP senior officer Nityanand Rai, who met Paswan four times in the last 24 hours. “The smiles on our faces say it all,” Rai told reporters, while Paswan promised more details after the final meeting.
“Until PM Modi is here, I am not worried about anything,” Paswan said, signalling he is content with the bargaining outcome. The agreement also satisfies the BJP’s goal of keeping the alliance united ahead of the 2025 elections.
Jitan Ram Manjhi, former chief minister and president of the HAM party, still holds his ground on the arrangement. He wants not only a fixed number of seats but also control over specific constituencies he can contest. After finishing talks with Paswan, Rai met Dharmendra Pradhan, the BJP’s Bihar election chief, to lock in the final details.
The Bihar NDA consists of five parties: BJP, JD(U), LJP (Chirag Paswan), HAM (Jitan Ram Manjhi), and RLM (Upendra Kushwaha). With the seat‑sharing puzzle solved, the alliance is now poised to launch a united campaign for the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections.
