Bengaluru, Oct 18 — Biocon’s respected founder, Kiran Mazumdar‑Shaw, took to X (formerly Twitter) to critique the “gourmet” meals offered by IndiGo 6E to its stretch‑seat passengers. She posted a photo of the menu and wrote, “This is what IndiGo 6E calls gourmet cuisine for the Stretch passengers. I prefer their regular items! Oberoi should introspect on this uninviting and tasteless menu – please do a customer survey and I bet you there will be 100 % thumbs‑down.”
The menu, shown in the picture, listed dishes such as German lentil and feta salad with beetroot, a German‑style Galouti, lavash with cream‑cheese yogurt dip, a Thandai‑tres‑leches cake, mixed nuts, pink salt and pepper. Many viewers thought the lineup sounded more like an eclectic snack spread than a high‑class dining experience.
The post sparked a lively debate on social media. Rahul K, who had just finished an Air India flight, commented, “Typing this just after getting off an Air India flight. Savoured hot pav bhaji mid‑air… Sometimes simplicity done right beats ‘gourmet’ any day.” Another user, Stocklearner88, added, “Surveys are not a bad thing as it has been made out to be in the current Karnataka context. If simple taste‑bud preference needs a survey, I’m sure a state with so many other use cases deserves one.” Rithvik R shared a different take, saying, “I used to work at Honeywell, 80 % of any aircraft is Honeywell, including the climate control unit. I know it can only filter out about 90 % of viruses; the rest 10 % can still circulate, so I avoid eating on a flight and prefer to fast.” Meanwhile, Rajesh remarked, “IndiGo is almost a monopoly; they won’t listen!”
Kiran’s tweet has highlighted growing concerns among passengers about in‑flight catering quality. It also raises the question of whether airlines should conduct regular customer surveys to improve their food offerings. The debate continues as travelers weigh the novelty of new menu ideas against the comfort of familiar, tasty foods.
