Fertiliser Shortage Sparks Tension in Odisha: BJD Slams Government, CM Pledges Action
Farmers in Odisha are struggling hard this cultivation season, and the opposition Biju Janata Dal (BJD) isn’t holding back. They blame the state government for not supplying enough fertilisers on time, leaving many growers in a tough spot.
Senior BJD leader Sanjay Das Burma shared these worries with the media in Bhubaneswar. He pointed out that farmers in several districts can’t get the fertilisers they need. "Despite our repeated calls, the supply chain is a mess," Das Burma said. "Farmers stand in long lines but go home empty-handed. This hurts crop yields and puts Odisha’s food security at risk."
Das Burma urged the government to act fast and fix the fertiliser shortage in Odisha right away. He wants them to own up to the farmers’ troubles and roll out a solid plan to prevent this in the future. To push their point, the BJD plans a protest dharna outside the Governor’s house on September 17. If things don’t improve soon, they’ll stage more demonstrations at collectors’ offices across the state.
On the other side, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi isn’t sitting idle. He held a high-level meeting in Bhubaneswar on Thursday to check the fertiliser supply status. Majhi ordered district collectors to keep a close watch on deliveries through Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (PACS) and Large-Sized Adivasi Multipurpose Cooperative Societies (LAMPCS).
The Odisha government insists there’s no real fertiliser crisis. They say the central government has already sent 9.55 lakh metric tonnes for the Kharif season up to September 30. CM Majhi also told officials to crack down quickly on any black marketing, hoarding, or fake fertiliser sales if complaints come in.
As the debate heats up over Odisha fertiliser supply issues, farmers hope for quick relief to save their season. Stay tuned for updates on this growing concern.
