The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is set to hold a key meeting of its Central Election Committee (CEC) on Friday, October 12, at 6:30 PM in the party’s headquarters in New Delhi. The session will decide the party’s candidates and strategy for the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections, which are scheduled across 243 seats.
Top BJP leaders are expected to join the discussion. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, National President J.P. Nadda, and Union Home Minister Amit Shah will be in attendance. A shortlist of three possible candidates has already been prepared for each seat. Before final names are confirmed, the BJP Bihar Core Group will meet in Delhi on October 11.
Once these meetings end, the party will give the final approval on candidate nominations. The first joint list from the NDA (National Democratic Alliance) partnership—made up of the BJP and Janata Dal (United) [JD(U)]—is slated for release on October 13. That announcement will mark the official start of the NDA’s election campaign in Bihar.
The meeting will also cover how seats will be split between coalition partners, where the NDA sees an advantage, and how to strengthen the party’s position in key constituencies. The NDA will face a broad opposition lineup, including the INDIA coalition led by Tejashwi Yadav of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), the Congress, the Communist parties, the Vikasheel Insaan Party (VIP), and a new entrant, Prashant Kishor’s Jan Suraaj, which has contested all 243 seats.
The Election Commission has set the timetable for the Bihar Assembly poll. Voting will occur in two phases on November 6 and November 11, with results counted on November 14. This race promises to be one of the most closely watched elections in India this year.
