Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal made a strong case for a BJP government in the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) during a rally in Assam’s Baksa district. Speaking at Fatemabad Tea Estate under the Salbari constituency on Monday, he said a BJP-led administration is key to keeping the peace, unity, and growth alive in the region.
Sonowal highlighted how BTR has changed dramatically. “Earlier, just hearing about Bodoland brought thoughts of fear, violence, and uncertainty,” he told the crowd. “People endured decades of conflict and neglect because past governments, especially Congress, ignored the area’s potential and failed to uplift its residents.”
He praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah for sincerely implementing the Bodo Accord. This move has turned BTR into a hub of peace and progress. Sonowal credited Modi’s policies like Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, and Sabka Vishwas for building trust, brotherhood, and inclusivity across the region.
The minister emphasized that sustaining this peace needs strong governance, development projects, and empowerment for local communities. “A clean and transparent system ensures social justice and security for everyone,” he said. “Every BTR citizen should feel free to use their skills in this peaceful environment. BJP aims to keep alive the spirit of equality and opportunity.”
Sonowal didn’t hold back on criticizing the Congress. Despite ruling India for over 50 years, he said, they neglected Assam and BTR, trapping generations in poverty and underdevelopment. In contrast, under Modi’s leadership, India has not only brought peace to sensitive areas but also risen as a global power.
He pointed to India’s economic boom: from the 11th largest economy in 2014, it’s now the 4th biggest. “By 2029, we’ll hit third place, and by 2047—our Independence centenary—India will be among the world’s most developed nations,” Sonowal added. He stressed that BTR must play a big role in this national growth story.
The BJP, he assured, focuses on transparent governance and accountability so every development rupee reaches people directly. “A corruption-free BTR will be just, strong, and self-reliant,” he declared.
Urging BTR residents to back the BJP in the upcoming elections, Sonowal called for support for candidate Chakradhar Das. “This is our fight to protect the peace we’ve built together. Only BJP can secure BTR’s future and let every citizen thrive in unity and dignity.”
