During the foundation‑stone ceremony of a new private university in Agartala, Tripura’s Chief Minister Manik Saha said the state is set to become a top education hub in the Northeast.
Saha, who oversees both higher and elementary schooling, announced new plans to boost the state’s learning environment and said the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government is ready to expand quality higher education opportunities.
“NEP 2020 encourages multidisciplinary study, skill building and global readiness,” he said. “We want every student in Tripura to have the tools they need for a technology‑driven world.”
The new university will welcome students from Tripura and neighboring states such as Punjab, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and West Bengal. Students from Bangladesh will also join, showing the campus’s growing appeal.
Saha highlighted that Tripura already houses three medical colleges, a dental school, a nursing college, a pharmacy institute, and a range of university‑linked technical schools. He added that the Tripura Institute of Technology will soon become a full university.
“Our goal is to improve campus facilities, hire top faculty, and provide wide access to learning resources,” he said. “We are turning education into a pillar of our state’s future.”
The chief minister urged students to use every resource the government offers to advance their personal and professional goals. He also stressed the importance of linking education with industry, research, and community projects.
The foundation stone ceremony was attended by higher‑education officials, the university’s chancellor and key academic leaders, who all shared optimism about the state’s expanding network of private universities in the pipeline.
