Bengaluru – BJP Karnataka chief B.Y. Vijayendra said the party is planning to set up two new coordination committees with the Janata Dal (Secular). The committees will help the parties work together ahead of the upcoming Greater Bengaluru elections.
Vijayendra met former Karnataka chief minister and Union minister H.D. Kumaraswamy on Tuesday to wish him a happy Diwali. After the greeting, Srinivas explained that the two leaders talked about the state’s current politics. He added Kumaraswamy will send committee names in the next 8‑10 days.
“I asked for ideas for a BJP‑JD(S) coordination committee. Because the Greater Bengaluru elections are coming up, Kumaraswamy suggested we create one committee just for Bengaluru and another for the rest of the state,” Vijayendra told reporters.
The BJP leader criticised the Congress‑led state government, saying that people are frustrated because nothing is improving in Bengaluru and across Karnataka. “You can all see the chaos in Bengaluru,” he said. He called the state ministers arrogant and accused them of ignoring suggestions from industry leaders like Mohandas Pai and Biocon head Kiran Mazumdar‑Shaw.
“Back when Yediyurappa was chief minister, we listened to Pai’s suggestions – we even invited him for tea. Now ministers mock respected people and act like the development of the city is their private business,” Vijayendra added.
He also reminded the audience of the Valmiki Development Corporation scam, saying that many citizens now think Karnataka is run like a “Tughlaq-era” regime. The BJP MP B.Y. Raghavendra had earlier claimed that funds raised in Karnataka were used in Bihar for elections. Vijayendra asked why state leaders Siddaramaiah and D.K. Shivakumar remain silent about the scandal.
According to him, the scam involved transferring money to Telangana, opening thousands of fake accounts, buying gold, and using the stolen funds during the Lok Sabha polls – details that the Enforcement Directorate has confirmed.
In another allegation, the Contractors’ Association said irrigation officials demand a 60‑70% commission. “D.K. Shivakumar told them to file a complaint, but the letter is already on the table,” Vijayendra said. He also mentioned that the chief minister’s economic adviser, Basavaraj Rayareddy, had written about sand mafia problems and a loss of ₹400‑500 crore for the state. “Why can’t we see the corruption for real?” he demanded.
Vijayendra further warned of illegal gambling rings, like “Ispit” and “Matka,” operating with police support in districts including Shivamogga. He accused leaders Siddaramaiah and D.K. Shivakumar of praising Karnataka as a model for the nation while the public sees widespread corruption and police complicity.
On the topic of Chittapur, Vijayendra questioned Minister Priyank Kharge’s actions, saying they seem irrational and possibly a publicity stunt. He claimed the chief minister’s statements that “Ram MIn” hit “the stage” in Chittapur will go ahead on November 2, and that there’s no confusion about the plan.
The meeting also saw opposition leaders and other BJP members, including Chalavadi Narayanaswamy (Legislative Council), C.K. Ramamurthy (Bengaluru South District President), and former MLA A. Manjunath. The gathering underscored growing tension between the BJP and the ruling party ahead of the state elections.
