BJP Leader Praises PM Modi for Punjab Flood Relief, Slams Bhagwant Mann’s Handling
In Chandigarh, BJP National General Secretary Tarun Chugh expressed heartfelt thanks to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday for stepping up big time during the Punjab floods crisis. Modi declared the floods a "severe disaster" and announced Rs 590 crore in extra relief funds, on top of the Rs 13,600 crore the Centre had already provided earlier. Chugh highlighted how Punjab’s people appreciate Modi’s quick and caring leadership at this tough time.
Chugh painted a stark contrast between the Centre’s support and the state government’s response. "Prime Minister Modi has acted like a true guardian for Punjab, rushing aid to farmers, flood victims, and damaged infrastructure," he said. But he didn’t hold back on criticizing Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, calling him "incompetent and inexperienced." Chugh accused Mann of dodging responsibility, making excuses, and pointing fingers at the Centre to hide his own shortcomings.
The BJP leader went further, labeling the Punjab floods not just a natural disaster, but a "Mann-Made Disaster" – putting the blame squarely on Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. He pointed to key failures under Mann and his ally, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal: delays in desilting the Sutlej River, giving up in court battles instead of fighting for the people, and skipping basic preparations before the monsoon hit. "These mistakes turned a routine seasonal issue into a heartbreaking human tragedy," Chugh added.
Chugh also took a dig at the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the opposition Congress, saying they’re "two sides of the same coin – one stays silent, the other causes destruction." He warned that Punjab’s people won’t forget this "betrayal" anytime soon.
Looking ahead to the upcoming Punjab Assembly session, Chugh made a strong demand: the Mann government must present a white paper in the House explaining what happened to the Rs 12,000 crore from the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) that the Centre sent. "Why didn’t they use these funds for flood relief? Why the delays in preparations? Why did negligence let hundreds of villages drown?" he questioned, urging full accountability.
Chugh didn’t stop there. He called for a CBI probe into all sand mining tenders in Punjab, with the findings tabled in the Assembly. This, he said, would expose whether the state government truly serves Punjab’s people or just protects the sand mafia.
As Punjab recovers from the devastating floods, these sharp exchanges highlight the growing political heat between the BJP and the AAP-led government.
