The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) captured nearly every seat in the local body elections that took place across the Union Territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli, and Daman and Diu. The party’s sweep covered District Panchayat, Municipal Council and Sarpanch posts.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi thanked voters for their support on X (formerly Twitter). He said the results show the people of Dadra, Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu trust the BJP’s development agenda. Modi praised the work of local workers, noting that the party’s strong connection with the region helped secure the win.
In Daman district, the BJP won 15 of 16 District Panchayat seats, 14 of 15 Municipal Council seats and 15 of 16 Sarpanch positions. The party took all eight District Panchayat seats in Diu district, marking a complete sweep there. In the Dadra and Nagar Haveli district, BJP candidates secured 24 of 26 District Panchayat seats and all 15 Municipal Council seats, underscoring the party’s dominance in the UT.
Amit Malviya, head of the BJP’s IT cell, called the outcome a “historic victory.” He added that the result reaffirms the people’s confidence in Prime Minister Modi’s leadership and vision for the Union Territory.
The landslide results highlight the BJP’s solid organisational presence in this coastal region. They also signal strong voter approval of the party’s governance and recent infrastructure and administrative reforms.
