Bengaluru, Nov 12 – Karnataka’s Chief Minister, Siddaramaiah, raised questions about why a powerful car blast exploded near Delhi’s Red Fort just before the national elections. His comments have sparked a strong backlash from the state Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which called the remarks “anti‑national” and said the Congress party is using the tragedy for political gain.
The blast, which happened on Monday, is still under investigation. At least 12 people were killed and around 20 were injured. The incident has shocked the nation and highlighted the need for quick and thorough police work to uncover the culprits and prevent future attacks.
BJP state president and MLA B.Y. Vijayendra responded on Wednesday, accusing the Congress of continuing its “anti‑national” stance. He said Congress leaders had previously helped Pakistani propaganda after the 2019 Pulwama attack and that Siddaramaiah’s statements were part of the same pattern.
Vijayendra said, “When the country’s sovereignty and security are at risk, everyone must stand together. The Congress is trying to turn these incidents into political tools, which shows their true nature.” He called Siddaramaiah’s remarks “irresponsible and insensitive.”
He added that the whole country should unite against terror, not get caught up in petty politics. For him, the loss of life and the sacrifices of soldiers should be respected, not politicised.
Vijayendra also recalled the period of the United Progressive Alliance (2004‑2014) when many bomb blasts and attacks, including the 2008 Mumbai attack, caused hundreds of deaths. He noted that while the central government struggled to respond, the opposition refrained from using national security as a political weapon.
He urged Siddaramaiah to apologize and withdraw his statement. He warned that if the chief minister does not act, the people of Karnataka will respond forcefully, reminding the state that “nation first, everything else later.”
The controversy began when Siddaramaiah answered questions from the media in Mysuru on Tuesday. He asked why such blasts appear to happen during election periods, suggesting that the central government should investigate. He also described the incidents as tragic because they cost innocent lives.
The incident has highlighted the ongoing challenge of securing India during election times and sparked debate over how political leaders address such security threats.
